Our project is a remote-controlled vehicle that can be used to remove rubbish and litter from beaches to keep them clean, attractive and a safe environment. Problem we are trying to solve is the issue of beaches being left in a bad state which will lead to less people going to the beaches. Also, we are looking to save marine life as litter can get into the sea and harm sea life animals. Removing dangerous items left on beaches like broken glasses and sharp metals will ensure people don’t get injured.

Empowered and Driven:
Delivering Solutions for Global Issues

SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities: Cleaner beaches contribute to the overall cleanliness and health of coastal communities, enhancing their livability and promoting tourism, which can support local economies.

SDG 13: Climate Action: Some beach cleaning systems focus on recycling and proper waste management, which can contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions associated with improper waste disposal practices.

SDG 14: Life Below Water: Beach cleaning systems help in reducing marine pollution by removing litter and debris from beaches, preventing them from entering the ocean where they can harm marine life.

SDG 15: Life on Land: Beach cleaning systems can help preserve terrestrial ecosystems by preventing pollution from harming coastal habitats and wildlife.

``Marine Pollution: Beaches serve as critical ecosystems and recreational spaces, but they are increasingly threatened by pollution from various sources, including plastic waste, discarded fishing gear, and urban runoff. This pollution not only detracts from the natural beauty of beaches but also poses significant risks to marine life through ingestion, entanglement, and habitat degradation. Environmental Degradation: The accumulation of litter and debris on beaches contributes to environmental degradation, affecting coastal habitats, water quality, and biodiversity. Plastic pollution, in particular, has become a pervasive problem, with microplastics infiltrating marine food webs and posing long-term threats to ecosystem health and resilience. Public Health and Safety: Polluted beaches pose risks to public health and safety, as hazardous materials such as broken glass, sharp objects, and chemical pollutants can cause injuries, illnesses, and contamination of recreational areas. Ensuring clean and safe beaches is essential for promoting public well-being and preserving the recreational value of coastal environments. Economic Impact: Marine pollution and degraded shorelines can have adverse economic consequences for coastal communities, tourism industries, and businesses reliant on healthy coastal ecosystems. ``
``Environmental Protection: Beach cleaning systems help safeguard coastal ecosystems by removing litter, debris, and pollutants from beaches. This action prevents harm to marine and terrestrial wildlife, preserves biodiversity, and maintains the ecological balance of coastal habitats. Enhanced Public Health and Safety: Clean beaches provide safer environments for recreation and leisure activities. Removing hazardous materials such as broken glass, sharp objects, or chemical pollutants reduces the risk of injuries and illnesses among beachgoers, ensuring a more enjoyable and worry-free experience. Tourism and Economic Development: Pristine beaches are key attractions for tourists, driving revenue and economic growth in coastal communities. A beach cleaning system helps maintain the aesthetic appeal and recreational value of beaches, attracting more visitors and supporting local businesses such as hotels, restaurants, and souvenir shops. ``
Use Case
The purpose of the beach cleaning system is goal of promoting environmental conservation, protecting coastal ecosystems, and enhancing the well-being of communities and marine life.

List of Essential Tools and Technologies

“Controlled through remote control, so whoever controls it can make sure it stays away from the sea or near people so their experience of the beach is not affected by it.

Can move in any direction, which will allow the vehicle to cover any part of the beach.

Large wheels to go on any surface.

A trailer system that is attached to the main vehicle collects all the rubbish from the beach surface using a ramp design to capture the rubbish.

A siv-like design inside where the waste is stored as want to filter out the sand, so it goes back in the beach.”

Impact on the market

``Our product is very essential for tourist locations, because many people come to these locations for the beaches and if the beach is nice and pristine, then more people will want to go there. This will essentially help other businesses around it economically, so there's going to be interest from these communities to invest into our product.

Our product is something special on the market as its easy to use and very effective. Also its a better alternative than getting people to pick litter from these beaches as our product will be faster and can run for a large amount of time. ``

We are still in the process of finishing our final product.
