About Masked Watch

Our team, Masked Watch, is working on an improved security measure. A security mask, designed to enhance access control by using facial recognition software. This is to improve the security of sensitive data and the safety of others around. This system reduces the risks of unauthorised access and by verifying identity in real time, it eliminates the need for physical cards.

UN SUSTAINABILITY DEVELOPMENT GOALS

Empowered and Driven:
Delivering Solutions for Global Issues

Goal 12, Responsible Consumption and Production, focuses on using resources efficiently by reducing e-waste and plastic cards, ensuring sustainable production practices.

Goal 16, Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, talks about creating a secure and fair system by protecting user data, ensuring safe access control, maintaining surveillance logs for safety.

THE STORY BEGAN

DESIGN STORY

Challenges

The challenges include: Replacing outdated security measures with flaws Prevent identity theft from the constant theft of id cards Prevent unauthorised access Lower the use of plastic every year.

Solution

To replace outdated security measures with flaws, we will use new technology such as biometrics. Identity theft will be lowered once the need for ID badges will not exist, as this system only uses facial recognition, this will also decrease unauthorised access and when as many ID cards will not be printed, the use of plastic will go down significantly.

Use Case

A company looking to modernize its office access control system replaces its ID badge scanners with Masked Watch's advanced biometric solution. The current system is vulnerable due to lost or stolen badges, leading to security risks. With the new solution, employees can now enter the building seamlessly using facial recognition integrated with biometric mask technology, eliminating the need for physical credentials. This allows administrators to easily control and update access permissions, boosting security.

THE PROCESS

PROTOTYPE DESIGN

These prototypes contain 3D-printed eyeballs mounted in a custom frame, driven by a servo motor. The motor is to control movement and the frame holds the eyeball securely while enabling rotational motion. These features are essential for testing the mechanical and functional aspects of eye movement in animatronic products. While the current setup effectively demonstrates basic motion, it will be improved by adding a built-in camera for facial recognitions and motion sensor, and refining the overall finish for a more polished look.

PLEDGE

Impact on the market

Our in-person facial recognition mask enters a rapidly growing market valued at $6.94 billion in 2024 and projected to expand at a CAGR of 17.9% through 2029. This product aligns perfectly with the rising demand for contactless biometric authentication, especially in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. As governments and corporations emphasize national and cyber security, our mask provides a highly relevant, secure, and innovative tool for real-time identity verification and access control.

Our facial recognition mask stands out from existing products due to the following key advantages:
-Unlike traditional stationary facial recognition systems, the mask allows for dynamic, real-time identity verification on the move, enhancing convenience and adaptability.
-The integrated sensors and processors offer more accurate facial data analysis, reducing false positives/negatives.
-It can be deployed across various sectors such as healthcare, defense, and secure facilities.
-As demand for hygienic and touchless solutions increases, our product offers a secure and practical alternative to fingerprint or keypad-based access systems.

Overall, the security facial recognition mask fits seamlessly into a growing market, offering a forward-thinking solution that addresses both current and emerging needs in security and, convenience.

RESULTS

FINAL PRODUCT

The process of developing this product started with brainstorming for ways to improve on existing technologies. Through market research and trial and error, we settled on the idea of a security mask that utilizes biometrics. After that, all the hardware needed was gathered and the parts for the product were 3d printed. After many prototypes were printed and the different sensors and motors were tested, the final product was built up and the code for the motion sensors and facial recognition was written. The product and its software was put through testing and the first version of the final product was complete.
