Empowered and Driven:
Delivering Solutions for Global Issues

Good-health and Well-being: this goal is about keeping yourself in good physical and mental health with also keeping your well-being in check. This relates to our project as the product will hopefully reduce the users sense of being unhappy with their circumstances and reduce the sense of alienation that most blind people face in their day-to-day life’s.

Decent Work and Economic Growth: this goal is about taking care of the workers and increasing employ-ability. this relates to our project as the glasses hope to increase the chances of those with optic issues getting jobs (thus reducing the unacceptability of those with eyesight issues) as the product will increase the users perceptiveness thus proving that they can do their job regardless of the eyesight issues.

Reduced Inequalities: this goal is about reducing inequalities so that everyone has a fair chance at what they want to do. this relates to our project as our product seeks to give those with eyesight issues a equal chance at getting a life closer to a ‘normal’ life of a typical citizen.

Challenges

The problem that we are going to solve is the decreased mental health and unfair employment opportunities that blind people or those with severely low vision experience within their daily lives.

Solution

By making this product, we aim to increase the morale of the user by enabling them to experience the world around them in alternate ways that bypasses the need for having good eyesight e.g. via touch or sound, we also aim to increase the potential job opportunities for those with blindness or low eyesight by encouraging the use of this product and by proving to the job market that this product can massively assist the blind and the weak-sighted with things such as navigation and object detection.

Use Case

let's say a user needed to find something but they had a hard time finding the item due to eyesight problems, the Morbius X would handle the task via object detection as the Morbius X would inform the user about the items that are in front of them and the amount of distance between the item and the user, if the item is recognized by the user then the user can pick it up and continue on with their day.

THE PROCESS

PROTOTYPE DESIGN

The prototype has 2 distance sensors and 2 buzzers paired with the raspberry PI 4B, this was designed as a thought process on how the team can execute this project appropriately and professionally, the distance sensors are meant to be on the side of the glasses (but we can’t show it on tinker-cad circuit as it is just a circuit demonstration).

Impact on the market

Our product fits in with the smart guidance glasses market as the product itself is designed for that purpose however it differentiates itself from other products currently on the market by having 3 directions of awareness (forward-facing, left and right), this provides a competitive edge over other products on the market as the other products are mostly have just a camera whereas our product has 1 camera and 2 distance sensors which is vital for tasks such as navigation when the need for real-time scanning of the environment is needed so these additional components will assist the user in their day to day life which is why it is so important and critical to have a unique product that is distinct from the other products which is why our product will be the best at it's purpose as it has accessibility at the forefront of our plan which makes our product so reliable for those with eyesight issues.

RESULTS

FINAL PRODUCT

The process of 3D designing the product was tedious as some of the controls were confusing for the team but it was not too difficult as the team got used to the controls pretty quickly, we thought to use one camera and 2 distance sensors as they would offer 3-directional awareness and we could use the distance sensors to alter the frequency of the vibration motors (we couldn’t find any 3D designs of any vibration motors so that’s why there isn’t any vibration motors on the 3D design of the Morbius X), the 3D model of the crystal stick is meant to represent wires as there were no 3D models of electrical wires or any female to male or female to female connectors.
