Challenges

Traditional benches fail to meet the need of a digital society, our solar powered bench is design to address these issues by not only optimizing clean energy but a comfortable and relaxing place you can feel safe in.

Solution

The smart bench is provided with heated seats for the public, we also have implemented USB ports for when your phone might die, and energy-efficient LED lighting for when it gets dark. The smart bench is a huge step forward for benches in public spaces, Its ability to operate independently makes it eco friendly.

Use Case

The purpose of this project is to create an independent smart bench that can be used by the public for various needs. As technology continues to evolve, public benches have largely remained unchanged. Our smart bench addresses this by offering features such as lighting and charging ports, all powered by clean, renewable energy. This project aims to modernize public infrastructure while promoting sustainability and convenience.

THE PROCESS

PROTOTYPE DESIGN

The Prototype for the smart bench is designed to demonstrate the features that make the bench both practical and effective for public use. The prototype includes a Solar powered charging ports, a basic sensor for temperature and for lighting around the bench. the prototype focuses on validating our concept of how solar energy can be used for outdoor seating. this allows to us test energy efficiency and stability and basic user interaction, this smart bench is aimed to replace the traditional benches which are often uncomfortable and at night, might be seen as unsafe.

Our smart bench enters a growing market focusing on sustainable infrastructure and smart city solutions our product address both needs of being eco-friendly and having public amenities.
Our bench offers key features, USB Charging, WiFi and environmental sensors, our product is designed to be cost-effective, have low maintenance and makes it ideal for university campuses and parks, by making it more appealing to locals, additionally, our prototype will ensure the final product will solve real world problems and a big infrastructure upgrade from the typical benches.

RESULTS

FINAL PRODUCT

The development of the smart bench we followed a structured process, starting with thinking about the idea and moving that to designing and prototyping, we began by identifying real world issues that are yet to be solved, and found that benches haven’t changed over the years and its time to bring something better, after brain storming and moving to design, we went on tinkercad and created a digital prototype to experiment with the layout and functionality. Throughout we focused on keeping the bench simple, functional and sustainable while using tools such as tinkercad to test out if the hardwares are compatible with each other, this process helped us by getting a clear roadmap to fully develop this prototype to the final complete bench.
