About Safe Track

A smart tracker that can be used to track any object or person. The location can be seen via a mobile app. The mobile app will give alerts when the tracker has gone out of a certain radius and when the tracker is low on battery. the tracker will need a wifi connection or bluetooth.

goal 3- can track elderly patients which allows nurses to know where they are so they can be helped more efficiently. Prevents elderly from wandering off and getting lost, common with dementia patients. Reduces stress of caregivers.
goal 9- promotes innovation in transportation, agriculture, emergency services.
goal 11- tracks stolen items so it’s easier to catch thieves, helps track items that are being transported which promotes ethical businesses as they can verify correct routes for deliveries.
goal 12- find lost/stolen items, no need to replace them, reduces production of items such as cars, bikes which optimises resource use as less materials will be needed.
goal 13- reduce carbon emissions as less materials need to be transported and less items will need to be delivered.

To communicate more on Microsoft Teams so we can organise the work between us. We will ask people who have experience in hardware for advice

Use Case

To find a lost/misplaced item while travelling. The tracker will show the location from the app of where it currently is

THE PROCESS

PROTOTYPE DESIGN

the prototype was made using tinkercad, the hardware components include an arduino uno, an lcd screen, wires, an attiny, 2 resistors, an led, a GPS module, a breadboard. This will all be put inside a case which will be an open box so that we can put the hardware inside. the box will include our team name on the side.

Impact on the market

the product will increase the growth of the security sector as it will provide people with more serenity knowing where their items and loved ones are. Hence, bringing in more money for the sector as there will be more customers especially as time goes on. Crime will always be an issue, whether that's theft or kidnapping. Our product will help against both. it will also increase innovation in the market increasing healthy competition.

RESULTS

FINAL PRODUCT

The Tinkercad design was done first so that it would be easier to copy for our final product. The Tinkercad circuit design was done by Adan and Ahmed. We gathered the hardware we needed from the university and assembled it over the course of 2 days. The actual entire building of the product including the coding and testing was done by Rayyan. we connected the physical components and tested them to make sure they were actually working. The code was copied from our Tinkercad but our components and the Tinkercad components were not the same. We had to adjust our code with new pin numbers and with a new library and a few more lines of code to change it for the screen we were given. There is also no GPS module on Tinkercad so we did some research on how to connect it to the other components. Once connected, we changed the code accordingly to factor in the GPS with another library. We carried out multiple tests after changes had been made to the code and hardware until it was working. the screen was used for testing to see if the correct data was being sent. We then need to collect our casing for the product from the university made by Ahmed on Tinkercad.
