About Smart Sip Solutions

Our project is to design a smart water filtration system which allows people to be able to filter their water to maintain their good health and well being. The problem we are trying to solve is to make more people drink water. Employers that work in industries like manufacturing, construction may be working long hours during the week and could forget to stay hydrated during the day. Our product can provide clean filtered water which would keep them hydrated for long hours. Our product can also help households. Overtime waterpipes can become rusty and clogged with residue. Thie can increase the chance of the water containing contaminants coming out of the taps in households which people are drinking every day. Our product can reduce this by filtering the water out of the taps first before drinking it. The target customers for our product can be for all ages as water is essential for everyone throughout their lives. This includes school students of any age, senior employees from any industry and retired workers. This is our chosen target audience it would help the overall well-being of the customers, our product has core benefits including ease of use, smart monitoring and water purity which would help reduce the risk of diseases and illnesses within our customers.

Challenges

Many people struggle with consistent hydration due to busy lifestyles. Concerns about tap water quality are widespread, leading to reduced consumption. Existing water filters lack smart, user friendly features like real-time monitoring. Dehydration is a growing public health concern, impacting productivity and well-being. Our smart water filter provides clean, monitored hydration, addressing these critical needs.

Use Case

Our technology delivers clean water, ensuring safe drinking water for all our customers. We will grow our market presence, making sustainable hydration a reality for homes and businesses. The core of our water filtration system will involve food-safe materials like high-density polyethylene for containers and recyclable, gravity-fed water filters. To deliver the filtered water, we'll use a pump and flexible, food-safe tubing. We'll prioritize a modular design with easily replaceable, off-the-shelf components, or parts provided by us, to ensure user-friendly maintenance. Status LEDs, LCD displays, and necessary sensors will provide the promised functionalities. This approach balances initial functionality with future scalability and the ability to adapt to diverse customer needs.

Our product includes smart monitoring which tracks water consumption and purity in real-time. It has a user-friendly design with an easy to maintain system. It is a versatile option meaning it can be used at home or in the workplace. It had smart sensors and display which include TDS, flow, temperature, and status LEDs.

Impact on the market

Our target marker is broad, it includes anyone who priorities their hydration and clean water. Usually being health-conscious people of any ages and people who may be concerned about their tap water so this product can be aimed at families and even employers who want to promote wellbeing in their workplace with having filtered water available. Initially we will be focusing our product on the home and then workplace. Overall, the water purifier/filtration market is growing and combined with the growing popularity of smart home devices our product would be ideal for expanding into both markets. The water purifier market is also ideal to become a part of because it's estimated to have a big increase in the future. We believe that this section of the market is expanding and the demand for smart home devices is growing rapidly; to understand the market more we will ask for customer opinions, surveys and the testing of a minimum viable product will be a great opportunity to bring a product to market.

RESULTS

FINAL PRODUCT

Firstly, we need to get the parts needed such as the Arduino microcontrollers, water filters, and the sensors (TDS, flow, and temperature). If we order in bulk, we can get discounts from suppliers like Mouser Electronics and RS Components which can possibly reduce our costs by 20%. These water purifiers are produced in a huge 5000 sq. ft. factory in the city of Birmingham, where 200 units are produced by 15 workers every month. The production process goes through a 12-step plan that includes things like installing sensors adding filters and making sure the unit is waterproof.

To ensure that ISO 9001 and NSF/ANSI 42 standards are met, each unit is carefully tested, making sure that 99.99% of bacteria is removed and the unit controls TDS levels well. Tests were done on 1000 litres of tap water that revealed to us that 92% of contaminants were removed by the filter. This beats the other brands such as Brita (85%).
