About Wastewise Tech

The product idea is the creation of a smart bin that will have the purpose of improving waste management by the optimization of waste collection and recycling.
We are creating a Smart Bin that will have the purpose of improving our waste managements system, this bin will have different feature that will make it smart such as a open/close automatic system and another system that wont allow the bin to be opened after the fullness reaches a certain threshold level.

The 3 sustainable goals that have been selected are sutainability cities (11), responsible production and consumption(12) and climate action(13). All of these three sustainable goals link to the overall project goal which is to improve our waste management system. Many smart bins are equipped with sensors or compartments to sort recyclables from general waste, encouraging responsible disposal. Smart bins help reduce litter and overflow by notifying waste collectors when they are full, keeping streets and public spaces cleaner.

Solution

Our proposed solution is to start investing and start implementing smart systems into our bins which will help with these ``everyday`` problems that we encounter.

Use Case

The places where overflowing bins would be found are near fast food location and city centre which is where people often find their self, if those bins had a real-life monitoring systems that don't allow the bin to be opened after a certain threshold has been reached....the problem of overflowing bins would highly decrease.

THE PROCESS

PROTOTYPE DESIGN

Our prototype is a smart bin which purpose is too improve waste collection and support enviromental sustainability. the bin will use ultrasonic sensor to detect motion and react by opening and closing the lid automatically, this smart bin will also be equipped with a sysyem that will detect the fullness of the bin and act according to it.

these are the list of components used in the creation of the prototype:
– ARDUINO UNO R3
– ULTRASONIC MODULE
– LED
– Mini gear servo
– Flexible wire

this product will be certain to have a impact waste management and environmental technology market, the target market for the product are small and large institutions as well as businesses. For all consumers the product will increase environmental awareness and also build a habits of better waste disposal. For businesses this can improve their systems of waste management in an efficient way.

RESULTS

FINAL PRODUCT

here are the steps the building of the smart bin:
– We got all the components ready which were previously listed
– connects vcc(ultrasonic module) to v5 (arduino)
– connect trig (ultrasonico module) to pin 9 (Arduino)
– connect echo (ultrasonico module) to pin 8 (Arduino)
– connect GND (ultrasonico module) to GND (Arduino)
– Connect Led to arduino

then we connect the arduino to our computer with a cable and run the code

this steps are the steps take were taken for the creation of the smart bin but there will be more steps added to finalise the prototype
